ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PET INSURANCE AND HEALTH

Pet insurance offers pet owners peace of mind by covering unexpected veterinary expenses. Pet healthcare is no exception to rising healthcare costs. Several pet insurance companies report that the average amount most people can pay for veterinary care at any given time is just $1,500. Vets tell us they have uncomfortable conversations with pet owners about the cost of treatment five to 10 times a day.

One in three dogs may need emergency medical attention at some point in their lives, which is why many veterinarians recommend getting coverage as soon as possible. In fact, most people buy pet insurance within the first six months of buying a pet. A pre-existing condition isn’t covered by any pet insurance provider, so it’s important to make a claim before a problem arises.

What is pet insurance all about and how exactly it works?

Pet insurance helps mitigate the financial risk associated with unexpected veterinary bills. The right insurance plan can give you peace of mind and allow you to do what’s best for your dog or cat.

Pet insurance works the same way as monthly renters insurance. Your insurance company charges a monthly payment for coverage. Your insurance will detail the conditions and costs covered, as well as your reimbursement rate, deductible and maximum payment (or annual limit).

Instead of paying the veterinarian directly, most pet health insurance programs pay you, the insured. This means you don’t have to search the internet for a vet and can apply for your cover at any registered vet clinic or veterinary clinic in the UK.

Whats is considered the best time to purchase a pet insurance?

Nothing compares to the joy of bringing a new pet into your life. Choose the right insurance cover from the start to protect you against unexpected accidents or illnesses.

When you bring a new pet into your home, the possibility of an accident or illness never crosses your mind. The first few weeks of learning are a lot of fun, whether you have a little puppy or kitten, or you’ve decided to adopt an older animal. However, pets are moody and illness or injury can occur at any time. Therefore, you should keep your pet as soon as possible.

You are responsible for any costs incurred if your pet becomes ill or injured before it is covered. You may also find that your insurance coverage is reduced or your rates may increase in the future. Indeed, many insurers will refuse to insure your pet if there is already a problem when purchasing a new policy.

The Pros and Cons of Pet Insurance

The money must be left or put in a bank account.

Pro

If you are a good saver, this can be a great alternative. Well. If you put aside 10 euros per month, you will have 120 euros at the end of the year. If you save $50 a month, you will have $600 a year, and so on. You can continue to save for next year if your pet doesn’t get sick. After a few years, you may have saved a significant amount of money.

Con

You have to exercise self-discipline. Unexpected expenses or temptations, like a new pet or a vacation, can put a strain on your money.

You may start saving and find that your pet needs veterinary care before you have saved enough money. This is the danger you run and you have to anticipate it.

Even if you’ve been saving for a long time, the value you have may not be enough. Vet fees can be quite expensive. Extremely expensive. And if your pet needs ongoing treatment, those costs can add up quickly. Every year we see a wide range of veterinary expense claims on ExoticDirect. A claim for pneumonia in a turtle resulted in a payment of £633, a fractured femur in a skunk resulted in a payment of £1,062 and stomatitis in an iguana resulted in a payment of £1,062. This resulted in a payout of £313.

Your pet’s well-being should be at the top of your priority list. So if you want to save money, you want to make sure you have enough cash in case the worst happens.

Animal Insurance

Pro

The number one reason people buy pet insurance is to cover unexpected medical expenses. When you purchase a policy that covers vet bills, you get a maximum amount of vet bill coverage that you can claim in any given year. It is important to note that this depends on whether your claim complies with the terms of the policy.

Since some exotic pets are more likely to require veterinary care, it’s a good idea to purchase insurance. There are many claims of reptiles such as bearded dragons and leopard geckos on ExoticDirect. We recently received a claim for an abscess in the jaw of a bearded dragon worth £410. Also £277 for an abscess in a leopard gecko.

You have a certain amount that comes out each month when you pay for the insurance. You can implement the policy and forget about it. The desire to “cancel” pet insurance may be less than the temptation to “max out” the money.

Some insurance companies allow you to extend payments; For example, ExoticDirect lets you spread payments over 10 months at 0% APR.

It is also important to protect your pet in the event of death, loss or theft. Exotic pets can cost hundreds or even thousands of pounds, so think about that. For example, a gray parrot costs around £800, a blue and gold macaw over £1000 and a tortoise around £200. The blue macaw, which can cost up to £15,000, is one of the most expensive parrots. You need to constantly think about the type of insurance coverage you need.

We offer insurance coverage that covers veterinary expenses, death, loss and theft. The policies offered depend on the type of pet you have. Why not find out more?

Con

You may never need to use your insurance coverage. You need to weigh the risk of not having to make a claim against the possibility of having to make a claim and the security of the insurance.

Your request may be refused if you do not comply with the conditions of the policy. For this reason, we always advise our customers to read the terms of their policy carefully before purchasing cover.

If your pet dies, you may have to pay for an autopsy, which may or may not be covered by your insurance policy. This would only apply to pet owners who have taken out life insurance. It is important to note that the cost of the autopsy can sometimes exceed the value of your pet’s insurance. Ask your vet how much an autopsy will cost as the cost can range from 200 to 250. If your pet dies within the first year of ExoticDirect cover, you will be responsible for the cost of an autopsy which will not be covered by your insurance. is covered.

There are a few things to consider when buying a policy.

Exotic pets may require specialized veterinary care, which can be expensive. Therefore, it can be difficult to compare an exotic pet insurance policy to a typical dog or cat insurance policy, as the plans may have been created to meet different expected veterinary needs and costs.

Your insurance must cover your pet for the entire calendar year; Some policies are renewed on a monthly basis, which means that if a claim is made in one month, this condition can be waived the following month. You must study this thoroughly.

REASONS WHY HEALTH INSURANCE SO EXPENSIVE IN THE UK

Although the NHS provides free, quality healthcare to all UK citizens, many people prefer private healthcare. Less waiting, comfort and personalization are the main advantages.

The cost of private health insurance is determined by your age, where you live and your lifestyle. Like most insurance, health insurance is not the same for everyone. However, you can make it more accessible by making smart choices.
Here is an example to give you an idea:

• If you are under 65, the annual cost of insurance is around £1,200, paid in 12 monthly instalments.

• If you are over 65 your annual healthcare costs can be £2,000 or more.

What factors contribute to the high cost of private health care?

The cost of health care is quite high, which can lead us to wonder whether private health insurance is worth it or not. Even simple basic treatments can be surprisingly expensive in some cases, eg. B. Direct NHS billing or private healthcare. For example, someone wanting a knee replacement would have to pay an average of £11,814. As this is an average value, prices may be higher or lower than the indicated value. Insurers take hospital costs into account when calculating rates and other factors. The above scenario explains why the costs of private health insurance are so high.

Purchasing private health insurance in the UK is a personal choice. If possible, make sure the monthly premium matches your financial means. However, keep in mind that you may need to narrow your options to get flexible coverage.

What factors affect the cost of private health insurance in the UK?

The cost of private health insurance is influenced by several factors, the most important of which are hospitalization costs, your living conditions and the amounts covered. The top ten cost drivers are listed below:

• Your age: Your age is one of the main factors affecting the cost of private health insurance. Since you are more likely to use medical services as you get older, your rates will be higher than when you were younger.

• Your postal code: Insurers take into account the location of a hospital and the average cost of care in the area.

• Your general health: this includes lifestyle factors such as smoking habits.

• Levels and limits of cover: refers to the different levels and limits of the treatment you have chosen. They may also contain items that are not covered by the standard policy.

• Maintenance of hospital facilities and grounds – This includes things like the hospital building, housing, other architectural elements, and the safety of medical staff, patients, volunteers, and visitors. The driveway, parking lots, arrival area and signage are maintained as part of property maintenance.

• Provide effective drugs such as personalized drugs and specialty drugs used in private hospital care.

• Hospital staff: Includes the recruitment of highly qualified health professionals.

• Medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment: As technology advances, hospitals need to keep their medical equipment up to date.
• Software for encryption, security, system access control, authentication and identification of medical data: this includes electronic health records (EHR) and data encryption, security, control of system access, authentication and identification software.

• For-profit status: Sometimes insurers are for-profit corporations. To operate, they charged extra for their services.

How does your medical history affect your private health insurance options?
As with other insurance products, your premium may be affected by the type of subscription available. When you apply for health insurance, insurers use this process to determine if they will provide coverage, at what price, and with what exclusions or limitations, if any, based on your medical condition. The four basic types are:

A two-year moratorium was imposed.

You are not insured for illnesses you have had in the last five years until:

• You have been a member for two consecutive years.

• You have had no symptoms related to this condition in the past two years.

If you don’t want to reveal all of your medical history, this is the option for you. When you make a claim, you will be informed if you are covered. This is because insurers do not take your medical history into account. It also means it’s quick and easy to use, and you’ll be covered faster than other types of moratorium subscriptions.

Complete Medical Subscription (FMU)

FMU is the most comprehensive subscription type available. Insurers want to know your medical history, including pre-existing conditions. They calculate your coverage based on these details.

This means you can get insurance for a pre-existing condition that you would otherwise be denied. Even if your current illness is not insured, you will know immediately what you can or cannot claim.

Unchanged medical exclusions (CME)

When you join a “CME” base, the insurers will continue to follow the medical exclusions set by your previous mutual.

Medical records are ignored (MHD)

If you enroll on an “MHD” basis, insurers will accept any pre-existing conditions you have at the time of your application.

How do different hospitals affect the cost of private health care?
Treatment costs vary between private hospitals in the UK. The cost would be determined by the equipment used, the facilities available and the accommodation provided. Hospitals in major cities in the UK, like many other services, tend to be more expensive than hospitals in rural areas. Insurers strive to maintain the level of play for all parties involved.

First, they work with hospitals to make sure prices don’t get out of control and negotiate preferential rates with hospitals, resulting in lower premiums.

Hospitals are then divided into categories. For example, there are hospitals that are the cheapest, the most expensive, and a middle group. You then choose which of the three hospitals you want to go to and pay more if you want to go to the more expensive ones. This ensures that those who live near cheap hospitals pay less for health insurance.

However, if you live in a big city, your local hospital may be in your insurer’s most expensive group. This would affect the amount you pay.

Choosing which hospital to purchase coverage for is a personal decision. The location of the nearest insured hospital, the premium associated with the cover and the facilities of that hospital for specific medical conditions you may have are key criteria considered in this selection.

Vital health insurance, for example, has three hospital levels:

• Lowest Category: Local – This category includes BMI Healthcare, Spire Healthcare, Aspen, Nuffield Health, Ramsay Health Care and New Victoria Hospital as well as all hospitals from the largest hospital groups in the UK. It does not cover a central London hospital.

• Medium-high category: “Nationwide”: This category includes most other private hospitals outside of London, as well as some private NHS inpatient units in London.

• “London Care” is the highest category: this level includes the following:

BMI Healthcare, Nuffield Health, Spire Healthcare and Ramsay Health Care are examples of major UK hospital groups.

2. Several local providers are available including Aspen Healthcare and New Victoria Hospital.

3. The Royal Marsden Hospital, London Clinic, St John and St Elizabeth’s Hospital, King Edward VII’s Sister Agnes Hospital and London Clinic in central London.

4. There are several private hospitals outside of London.

5. Outside London, all private NHS patient units.

6. There are several private units for NHS patients in central London.
Other insurance companies provide lists of comparable hospitals, although specific alternatives may vary. For example, BUPA health insurance has three tiers, Aviva health insurance has three tiers, and AXA has two tiers.

Dry Mouth Issues and Two Easy Solutions

Many times, we are faced with difficult conditions when performing under pressure and one of these conditions is dry mouth. A trumpet player with dry mouth is like a fish without water. Both conditions will result in a very bad situation.

Common Causes of Dry mouth

Dry mouth is not always related to an underlying condition. It may be caused by:

  • Not drinking adequate water
  • Nervousness
  • Stress
  • Certain medications
  • Aging
  • Cancer therapy (radiation/chemotherapy)
  • Smoking
  • Methamphetamine use
  • Injury or surgery
  • Tobacco
  • Exercising or playing in the heat

Take note of conditions 2 (nervousness) and 3 (stress). These two are generally the cause of dry mouth when performing. Performances can be stressful, especially if the performer is not fully confident of his/her solo material and preparation. In my case, I have found that being under prepared is the most often cause of dry mouth. If you know your material fully, there is no reason you should be nervous. Some may argue that they were prepared and still suffered from dry mouth. To that challenge I would ask, “were you prepared enough to play your solo in front of your best friend 10 times in a row without making any errors? This would be a simple test to see if you were prepared and I’m confident that you could not pass this test. True confidence in yourself will make all the difference as to how nervous you will be at the time of your performance. Now that my sermon is over, we will look at two possible solutions for those who still need help with dry mouth.

During my senior year in high school (1960), we were fortunate to host the University of Iowa’s Concert Band perform a concert in our auditorium. On that program was a very gifted trombone player by the name of Gordon Hallburg. Gordon eventually became a good friend and for a short time taught at the University of Northern Iowa where I taught. He later joined the Boston Symphony.

I believe he was featured on that program performing “The Blue Bells of Scotland”. During one of the infrequent rest periods in this number, Gordon removed something from his pocket and began to chew on it. Seconds before his next entrance, he removed the object and placed it again in his pocket. Most people in the audience had the same thought running through their mind, “what was in his pocket, why did he choose to chew on it during his performance and why did his return it to his pocket. Upon questioning him later that day, he told me that he sometimes suffers from dry mouth and solves the problem by chewing on something (a rubber band) to get the saliva back in his mouth. Apparently, this worked for Gordon although I have not tried it under fire myself.

Lately I have been faced with dry mouth condition because of reason #4 from our list above. This condition has not affected my playing but after explaining my morning discomfort to one of my many doctors, it was suggested that I swish Biotene Mouth Wash around in my mouth for a full minute before retiring for the day. I did as I was instructed and found no relief the next morning, but it did generate extra moisture in my mouth for about an hour.

The Best Way To Improve Your Tone and Health

I’m sure that most of you clean your horns at least once a week. SURE YOU DO!! I have to admit that the hygiene routine on my instruments is not what it should be but one area you should address at least once a week is your mouthpiece.

Studies have been done to determine how much of a health risk is to neglect the cleanliness of a trombone mouthpiece and it was found that many trombone performers are now contracting respiratory infection because of unclean trombone mouthpieces. It is true that a trombone player is at a greater risk from infestation than a trumpet player for the simple reason that moving a trombone slide from 7th position to 1st position forces air not only through the bell but also back through the mouthpiece and into the face of the player. Fortunately the direction of the air on a trumpet is only in the direction; towards the bell. Even though we trumpet players are at less risk of germ transfers, it is always prudent to play on a clean instrument.

I have mentioned in other posts the importance of scrubbing the inside of your mouthpiece with a mouthpiece brush and even using toothpaste on such a brush. The added abrasive in toothpaste will cut any build-up on the inside and will renew the “new mouthpiece” feel to your air stream. I have also mentioned that you should “never” use this toothpaste application on the lead pipe for fear that the grit in the toothpaste could eventually make its’ way into the valve section and damage your valves. Well, I have changed my mind on that thought. If, after swabbing your lead pipe with the toothpaste mixture on a brush, and meticulously flushing such lead pipe with ample amounts of warm water, you should be fine and the super clean air passage will blow your mind.

Just remember, “Be sure that you have rinsed the lead pipe completely” before beginning you playing.
